I spent time this week with my African American son Sam Roley who is a psychology major at MTSU. We talked a lot about the struggles young AA children have when they continue to test poorly and are often frustrated in Tennessee schools with no hope of being equipped for the variety of opportunities that could come their way. Several of his friends from FHS got into trouble and are not going to fin

ish their educations... it is not because they lack the brainpower or talent to go to school but in these cases they are without parents who would prod and hold them accountable and so they end up pushing a broom or digging a ditch (which is fine work if you are happy doing it) but the students we talked about are capable young men who have fallen through the cracks. Ministries like Barefoot Republic and Frank Town Open Hearts do so much to help these at risk students. Please pray about being a counselor or tutor to one of these kids while they still have the chance to make it through school and into a better life!
